Death is a topic that many people are reluctant to talk about, and since 2009 the Dying Matters Coalition have been trying to change this. It would seem lately that some progress has been made –Disney has made a groundbreaking film, “Coco”, and there have been an increasing number of books launched discussing many aspects of death, from what it’s like to live with a terminal diagnosis, to the variety of cultural customs around death globally.
We, too, would like to encourage members of the public to have more conversations with their loved ones regarding their wishes. During Dying Matters Awareness Week in 2018, we will therefore be holding some events to encourage positive conversations, and providing advice on how to do so.
Staff in our Crawley and Billingshurst branches will be hosting events open to all members of the public to come and discuss their wishes, and receive advice from a variety of experts including a celebrant and Death Doula, Ministers and our own team in order to ease the progress of your conversations.
As such, we’re calling these events “Big Deal, Small Talk”, and there will even be incentives on offer for those who are keen to express their wishes to their loved ones.
