Wartime
September 2nd, 1939: As Germany annexes Poland,
an elderly Horsham lady passes away. The next day, as Britain, France,
Australia and New Zealand are declaring war on Germany, she is collected
from her nursing home in Southwater and brought back to 9 North
Parade, where Freeman Brothers is still based to this day.

This funeral was the 129th undertaken by Freeman
Brothers in 1939; number 130 was of a 92-year-old gentleman, contradicting
our view that people from earlier times passed away far younger
than we do today.
