Just announced: our Dying Matters Awareness Week 2019 event dates!
Following the success of our Big Deal, Small Talk events in 2018, we’re bringing them back during Dying Matters Awareness Week in 2019. This year, we’re running a variety of events in collaboration with each of our branches, to again get the conversation about death, dying and funerals going.
We’re building an exciting programme for the week, which currently kicks off in our Billingshurst branch on Tuesday 13 May, with another Big Deal, Small Talk event from 11am until 2pm. Members of the public are invited to join us in an informal atmosphere to discuss how to plan their funeral wishes with their loved ones, aided by refreshments and goodie bags! We’ll also be welcoming local charities AgeUK Horsham District and The Mary How Trust, who will be on-hand to discuss their work.
In our Crawley branch this year, Big Deal, Small Talk will be an evening affair, along with complimentary wine and cheese! There will be wine tasting from 5pm onwards led by Colin of Hennings wine in Pulborough – Hennings is an independent wine retailer, who stock wines which aren’t available via other outlets, so this is a great opportunity to try wines you wouldn’t otherwise find. This will take place on Friday 17 May, and there will again be the opportunity to discuss your funeral wishes, and receive a goodie bag. The event kicks off at 3pm, and we’ll be open until 7pm.
Our Horsham event promises to be exciting too – this year we are partnering with local social enterprise The Butterfly Project, who we have a close relationship. Whilst working with them last year, we discovered that one of their goals is to open and run a café, in order to support the young people they work with to gain new skills. When coming up with our events programme, we thought that them hosting us during Dying Matters Awareness Week would be an ideal opportunity for a soft launch, and happily they’ve agreed to run a pop-up café for us! This Big Deal, Small Talk event will take place on Saturday 18 May at their premises in Horsham – The Butterfly Project will be making the drinks, their friends from Jubylee Bakes will be providing the cakes, and the Freeman Brothers team will be on-hand to facilitate discussions about funerals. Free drinks and cakes will be available between 11am and 2pm.
Full details of all events will be posted here on our blog as soon as they become available. You can book tickets for any of our events via our Eventbrite page, though you are also welcome to drop in. Finally, we’ll also be covering our events via our Twitter feed. Will you be joining us in May?
