When Freeman Brothers returned to the South of England Show in 2018, there were several elements to the offering on our stand, one of which was to incorporate some charity fundraising. Three charities were chosen – one within the locality of each of our offices in Horsham, Crawley and Billingshurst – and each charity sent a representative to join us on the stand for one day at the show. The volunteers enjoyed their time on the stand, plus the opportunity to network with other organisations at the show and make relevant contacts within industries such as craft, communication, and funding.
One of the coffins displayed by Freeman Brothers (a “Down on the Farm” coffin from Colourful Coffins) served an additional purpose – the coffin was filled with a variety of goodies to create a lucky dip, with those brave enough to enter being asked to choose a charity to donate to in order to claim their prize.
Members of the public were generous in their fundraising, with funds being matched by Freeman Brothers to boost the total raised to over £150. Community Co-Ordinator Becky has been busy making the rounds to present the cheques to The Butterfly Project, Crawley Open House and The Mary How Trust. Becky said: “One of the best parts of my job is to be able to hand over a cheque of funds raised, knowing that it will support a good cause and that the money kindly donated will remain within the area and continue to support local people. To be able to present three cheques in the space of a week is an absolute privilege, and I know that the money we have been able to raise will further the excellent work of these organisations.”
On behalf of the three charities, thank you very much to those who donated! Freeman Brothers looks forward to continuing to support these and other charities and community groups. If you would like to suggest other organisations which could benefit from our support, please get in touch.
