Hills Cemetery Chapel
Freeman Brothers operates the chapel at Hills Cemetery on behalf of Horsham District Council.
The Chapel has been refurbished extensively, with new flooring, seating and lighting, and we have installed an Obitus system that, as well as playing music digitally, allows services to be broadcast over the internet. Photos and photo montages can also be displayed on the screen.
As well as being used before a burial in the cemetery, we are very pleased to offer the chapel as a resource for local funeral services, or as a venue to hold a memorial service. If you would like some more information about services in the chapel, or if you are a funeral director who needs to arrange a service there before a burial in the cemetery, please click here for more information or contact us.
Freeman Brothers has also introduced a funeral package to include a service in the cemetery chapel, followed by a direct cremation at Worthing Crematorium. If you would like more information about this, please click here or contact us.

Freeman Brothers has is operating Hills Cemetery Chapel on behalf of Horsham District Council and has refurbished it to the highest standards, featuring a flexible layout that enables it to be used as both a traditional service venue (with seating for up to 50 people) and a more intimate space for smaller congregations.
As part of the Chapel’s refurbishment, we have installed an Obitus music system, equivalent to that available in many crematoria.
The many features of this system include:
- a wide choice of music. Any piece of music that is commercially available should be available to be played on the state-of-the-art digital system, with music included in the standard charge for use of the Chapel.
- hymn tunes to accompany congregational singing. The music system has a range of familiar hymns to sing to, including versions with a simple organ accompaniment or those with organ and choir.
- a display screen. Included in the standard charge for the use of the Chapel is the ability to display one photo on the screen, either throughout the service or at a time of your choosing.
- a photo montage facility. For a nominal additional charge, there are various options for displaying montages of photographs, at your chosen time during the service.
- webcasting. The funeral service can be broadcast live via the internet or you can also choose to be able to re-watch and download later. Additional fees apply.
Our charges for a service at Hills Cemetery Chapel followed by a direct cremation at Worthing Crematorium.
Freeman Brothers is pleased to offer a package for funerals to include a service at Hills Cemetery Chapel followed by a direct cremation at Worthing Crematorium: this enables our customers to have a service in Horsham at a day and time to suit them. The coffin will be brought to the chapel prior to the service, so it is ready when the congregation arrives, and will be returned to our premises afterwards. The person who has died is then conveyed to Worthing Crematorium – typically at a day and time of Freeman Brothers’ choosing – shortly after the service.
This packaged service provides the convenience of a local funeral, featuring the music and webcasting facilities you would find in a crematorium chapel, with the added benefit of a longer service time. It is also more cost-effective than our equivalent traditional funeral for a service at Worthing Crematorium.
Our fee is comprised of a number of elements that include a service charge, the cost of the coffin, transport to and from the cemetery chapel and to the crematorium, the requisite staff, use of the chapel and the Chapel Attendant.
Additional services, such as limousine(s), printed Orders of Service, ashes caskets and cremation jewellery, are available at supplementary costs. Please see our price list of additional items for these costs.
